Common questions

Can I bring my history from another app?

Yes. Import an Alpha Progression, Hevy, Strong or Fitbod export from Settings → Your data → Import from another app. Alpha Progression imports also rebuild your programs. Importing the same file twice is safe.

How are my targets set?

Each exercise has a rep range. Defiant fits a strength model to your history and suggests a weight and reps for every set. Hit the top of the range on every set and the weight goes up next time.

What do I do on my first workout?

Pick a weight you could lift for the top of the range with a couple of reps to spare. From the next session on, targets are worked out for you.

What is RIR?

Reps in reserve: how many more good reps you could have done. Prefer not to track it? Turn off Effort targets in Settings.

How do deloads work?

If your plan has a deload week, you'll get a prompt when it arrives. Set how light and how short deloads are in Settings → Deload week, or deload a single workout from its ⋯ menu.

How do I track a run?

Add Running, a jog or sprints to a workout and tap Start. Allow location while using the app so distance and pace are measured. Past routes are in Profile → Runs.

How does Apple Watch work?

Install Defiant on your watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. Start a workout on either device and it shows up on both, with the target, rest timer and one-tap logging. Runs use your iPhone's GPS.

Does my data sync between devices?

Yes, through your own iCloud account when iCloud sync is on in Settings. If sync shows an error, check you're signed in to iCloud and have storage free.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Delete all workout data.
